Why did  Susan Starbird create Tales From The Take-Out, and why has it been retired?   Created because many women paddlers have unique perspectives and barriers to overcome. Such as doubts about skills and strength, conflicting time demands, and trouble committing to restorative activities, plus practical considerations. Presentation of this page was my effort to pass on what women learn through modeling by and for each other.  Retired because there are now so many distinguished women paddlers that they no longer need special visibility.

I'm grateful to the many women who've developed me as a boater, including sports psychologist Ellen Carlton, clinical social worker China Dusk, as well as the many model-paddlers I've tried to imitate over the years: Barbara, Wanda, Ann, Cathie, Kit, Jean, Bonnie, Liz, Kitty, Nancy, Carol, Pam, Lynne, Sue, Barbara, Sue, Kate, Kathy, Dana, Caroline . . . .
